Matt Adams is going home.
(Actually, he may well already be there, but you never know with these ball players these days.)
According to the Centre Daily Times, Adams will be making an appearance to shake hands and sign his name to things in his hometown of Philipsburg, PA today.
Reading the link above, it would seem Adams is quite beloved in his hometown, and why shouldn’t he be? While this can be said of a lot of towns, and yet is something to aspire to for even more, Adams is the only player from his hometown to reach the big leagues. Don’t believe me? Here is the list of said players. Sure, there was that juggernaut P-O Mountaineers 1996 club that had two players taken in the same year (and who knows how many more alumni, since B-R only tracks the school the player was in while drafted – to wit, Adams doesn’t show up on that list because he was drafted out of Slippery Rock University), but Adams is the only one with big league service time.
So if you happen to be in Philipsburg, PA around mid-day today, stop by Elaine Adams’ Beauty Shop (no relation, as far as I can find) and shake the slugger’s hand.

On Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., he will be back in Philipsburg, sitting in Elaine Adams Beauty Shop on Presqueisle Street, hanging with fans and signing anything anyone wants signed. Take advantage now. Before he wins the World Series.
